This is such a brilliant photograph. What I find so engaging is that it takes a moment for your eyes to make sense of what it is actually looking at, and before you realize it’s the two figures, the image exists as this really intriguing, expressive nonobjective piece. It reminds me of Chinese calligraphy painting, the way the light falls on the figures has the same quality as energetic brushstrokes. I think this piece would also work well horizontally with the left side on the bottom, reiterating the idea of “valley”/landscape and suspending the inquiry as your brain discovers the figures inside the landscape.
