This image displays to me an interesting converse relationship. Her eye and her mouth and her posture convey a sense of sorrow, though not overly so. Also playing into the idea of sorrow is her clutching the cozy type of security blanket to her breast with a protective gesture covering what is typically seen as a very vulnerable area of the body. The converse relationship is what the body seems to be communicating in contrast to the fun and bright colors in the makeup and the scarf, taking this from a place that could be deep sorrow to more of a sorrow lite. I think this was a good choice visually because the paradox keeps the viewer focused on the beauty of the piece rather than eliciting a sorrowful emotional response which would be more likely if done differently.
