Description
Life is characterized by stages of growth and development. Though many may want to think of life as a physical progression, it must also be noted that life can also be characterized by the progress of ones wisdom. The stages of life have been the subject of many works of art, from the masterful to the macabre. In the art piece by Robert WK Clark featuring three naked models, the allegorical stages of life are yet again rendered, this time in a luxurious, subtly erotic manner.
Three models can be seen in the image. The first is crouched on the floor, her right arm resting on the ground and her head resting on the lap of the second woman. Under the dim lighting, her features almost appear barely discernible. On top her lies the torso of the second woman. Likewise to the first, the second models hand also rests on the ground. And finally, on top of the two models is the supine third woman. While her feet are touching the ground, the rest of her body is clearly visible. In their respective postures, the three women seem to suggest the stages of consciousness. The first woman, crouched on the ground, represents the birth wherein a person appears to be devoid of deep knowledge but instead only characterized by primitive instincts intended for self-preservation. The second woman, in her half-crouched position, signifies the process of awakening. She seems to unravel from a primitive state to that of an aware although not completely enlightened one. She evokes the process of gathering experience and knowledge as she opens to the world. And finally, the third woman represents a heightened sense of consciousness. She receives the most amount of light which is symbolic of her wisdom. She is also supine and well exposed which may indicate her openness to the world upon achieving the final state of freedom from primitiveness and ignorance.
The three women, however, are reflected in the lower part of the work. In this aspect, it can be gathered that wisdom does not necessarily come with age. One is given the opportunity to enrich oneself through learning. But many may choose not to seek enlightenment and remain juvenile and perhaps even barbaric. Thus, the reflection shows the possibility of failure to grow a sort of devolution or stagnation. In the end, the picture remains a reminder that stages in life, after all, are still under the influence of ones conscious choices and that following the right course is the way to achieve enlightenment. Robert WK Clark

By far one of the most intriguing photos captured by the artist. The models are perfectly posed and it is extremely well balanced. It shows the beauty of the female body but more importantly it shows the movement of bodies while in unison. The reflection makes the photo even more interesting point of view. I think the artist details in many of his art pieces the movement of the human body. It shows that working together is possible and peaceful, as I find this photo unique and peaceful.
